Black Americans have played an important role in every era of Montana history. York came first, but black fur traders, steamboatmen, ranchers, farmers, tradesmen and women followed. This site is a tribute to Black Americans in Northern Montana. The Overholser Historical Research Center in Fort Benton is dedicated to historical research and writing about our colorful history. All photos and writing are copyright Ken Robison.
